I don't see what else is there to do in this game. Of coure most of those goals are still just painting the map your colour.

Reform a tribe? Get used to the waiting game.ĭiplovassalize/inherit everything? Say hello to the size modifiers, plus Crusader Kings makes this way more interesting. Plus the reward is grossly underwhelming.Ĭolonize everything? Sure, that can work, but the game is rigged, so if you're not Castille or Portugal then you'll need to become a military powerhouse first and crush Castille/Portugal. But you'll need to become a military power first to ensure that byou can keep the Empire and its neighbours in check. Well, trade only generates money, so we're back to square one.ĭominate the Papacy? You need land to get high papal influence.

So maybe you want to become a trade power. Sure, you can subsidize your enemy's enemies but that does not really help much. The only effective way to influence other nations with all that hard earned money is to build an army. What is the purpose of playing the game? To paint the map your color? If not, then what else? What sort of achievement does the game offer beside land acquisition.īecoming rich? To what end. The waiting game is an unfortunate element, but once the game truly starts of you no longer have to worry about the waiting game.Įuropa Universalis never gets to the second part. Consider the fact that early turns, crucial as they are, are also the least interesting. Reduce the waiting game.Ĭonsider the Civilization series. Get infinite resources or make negative effects disappear instantly. Look at most "OP" strategies ever proposed. So many crucial resources are gained through time and so many negative effects disappear only over time, that time management becomes the most crucial part of the game. Not playing the game is the intended method of "playing" the game. The "game" rewards the player for doing nothing. All of those are mainly gained through time.Īdd to that war exhaustion, aggresive expansion, nationalism and coalitions, which dissipate over time and you reach a peculiar conclusion. In particular the monarch poits, manpower, gold, fervor, papal influence and republican tradition. I'm not saying it is the case, I'm just saying it looks like it.Ĭonsider the game's resources. Unfortunatelly it looks like the more popular and prestigous Paradox games are the more commercial Paradox becomes as a whole, forgetting about the players. Moreover some pool or thread with ideas would be great. It is quite frustrating that Johan can't simply answer users requesting such features- simple answer "We will work on it" or "We won't do it" would at least let the players know what to expect. Yes, they are introducing features that were proposed many times in this forum but there is still unsolved crucial aspects such as enhanced internal affairs system.

What I'm unhappy with is lack of response from developers to many enquires from players. But overall EU4 provides lot of fun for me and if someone ask me what is the best strategy game IMO I would say "EU4" without doubt- even though Victoria 2 has some best mechanics I've ever seen in strategy games. For me however EU4 is really good strategy game but obviously there is always a lot that can be improved or added. For some strange reason many posts on the forum are either good or bad opinions about the game. I started playing Paradox games from EU3 and I must say that I like EU4 much more.
